The newest facial rejuvenation filler from the makers of Botox and Juvederm is now in Richmond, VA! It is called the Voluma treatment (or sometimes “Juvederm Voluma”) and is unique in that it lasts up to 2 years, which is longer than most other dermal fillers. Voluma is made from hyaluronic acid, the same product that is in Juvederm, Belotero, Restalyne and Perlane, and is approved for use in restoring volume to the mid face.
Hyaluronic acid is actually a bit of a misnomer, if you consider how most people imagine the word “acid;” it is actually a sugar molecule, found as a natural component of our skin. Hyaluronic acid acts by attracting water molecules and gives skin resilience, fullness and volume.
HOW DOES THE VOLUMA TREATMENT WORK?
Juvederm Voluma uses a unique process known as cross linking to tightly join the hyaluronic acid molecules together to make the rejuvenating effects last 2 years. The really great thing I am seeing when using this product is its ability to not only fill, but also lift the mid face. By lifting, we are seeing softening of the lines around the mouth and under the eyes, along with the benefits of more youthful looking, full cheeks.
This patient was looking for some improvements in preparation for her wedding this spring. I used one syringe of Juvederm Voluma on each side to accentuate her cheekbones and to help soften the transition areas under her eyes and around her mouth.
