KYBELLA IS AN INJECTABLE PRODUCT SPECIFICALLY INDICATED FOR TREATING A DOUBLE CHIN AND SCULPTING YOUR JAWLINE.
Kybella specifically acts on the fat cells that live underneath of our chin and induced the body to get rid of these fat cells permanently. To get rid of your fat, you will need a series of injections, most people have about 2 to 3 injection sessions spaced five weeks apart. The great thing about this product is that once you go through the series of injections, the results that you get are going to be permanent and that’s because when we reach adulthood, the number of fat cells that we have in our body is set, we don’t grow new fat cells. The reason we gain and lose weight is that the fat cells that we have get bigger and smaller. So if you take out that number of fat cells from the specific area whether it’s the liposuction, Kybella or another product, those results are going to be permanent, assuming that your weight stays fairly steady within about 10 to 15 pounds.
Kybella is a quick and easy injection, very much like a Botox injection. Most patients have some swelling for an average of about three to four days. Some folks find that wearing a turtle neck or a scarf can be helpful, we usually do these on a Thursday or a Friday and most patients feel comfortable enough going back and resuming all their normal activity on a Monday.
For the injection procedure, we mark the area to be injected with an erasable marker, we mark the bone of the jaw as the upper limit of the treatment area and then mark the thyroid notch, which is where your larynx or her voice box is located. In this way, we ensure a safe and effective procedure. We then use ice to numb the area. The injection itself is not painful, some patient describe a warm and tingly sensation. If it becomes uncomfortable, we put the ice right back on and the sensation goes away. The acutal procedure is very quick, taking around 5 minutes. W use a really small 33 gauge needle, which is one of the smallest needles available to ensure your comfort.
As with any injection, there is always a risk of bruising, but by using ice and very small needles during the procedure we rarely see patients experience bruising. If they do it can be a little pinpoint bruise that is easily covered up with makeup.
After the procedure we will ask you to take it easy for the rest of the day, you can work out and resume all your normal activities the next day. You can eat a normal diet and you can shower right away. We have patients do some icing the first night and then the next day if they have any discomfort, and you they can take Tylenol.
The double chin and sagging jawline is a big concern for a lot of patients, and I think being able to offer people something besides just liposuction and getting some permanent results has been really one of the things really I like about Kybella and what this product can do for patients without having potential complications of a surgical procedure.
