THERMITIGHT IS A NON-SURGICAL TREATMENT FOR SAGGING SKIN
The most elegant celebrities like Catherine Zeta-Jones may have incredible faces and figures, but sagging skin around the knees and elbows gives away their true age.
ThermiTight is a new in-office procedure which uses injectable energy to precisely target areas of loose skin in many different parts of the body.
As we age, our skin loses collagen and elastin, 2 proteins that give skin support and stretchiness. Sagging skin on the knees has been dubbed “kninkles”. This most commonly begins to affect women in their 40’s. Unfortunately, no amount of exercise or diet can make this sagging skin look better. In fact, loss of fat in the legs can make them look even worse. Fat is important in supporting our skin, and when it is lost (think gastric bypass), skin begins to sag. Skin products, microdermabrasion or exfoliation don’t really help either.
Here is how the ThermiTight injectable procedure works: A small amount of local anesthesia is injected into the loose skin. A very thin probe is then placed underneath the skin, and radio frequency (RF) energy is applied slowly until the skin reaches 42 degrees Celsius. An infrared camera is used in real time during the procedure so Dr Shaw can see the exact temperature at all times. Once all of the skin is heated to 42C, the other knee is done in the same method. The entire procedure takes about an hour. Less for smaller areas like the elbows. There is no pain, no cutting, no stitches. Thermi is a one-time procedure and results will last for years. Patients have some swelling which generally lasts for 7-10 days. There is no real downtime, but Dr Shaw does recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for about 48 hours. Over the next 3 months, the skin contracts, revealing smooth, youthful looking knees.
