Chin Implant

When performing a chin implant, Dr. Shaw uses a specialized type of material called Medpor®. This substance has a very similar composition to that of bone.

A chin implant can dramatically improve chin size and jaw position. While having a slight overbite is often a non-issue, pain and discomfort in the jaw area is a definite cause for concern. Investing in a fast and effective chin augmentation procedure can go a long way in improving your appearance and reinforcing your facial structure. Dr. Shaw is happy to provide the Medpor® chin implant to those who wish to be happier with their chin.

Struggling With a Weak Chin?

A weak chin tends to occur due to a poorly developed lower jaw bone or one that is pushed back into the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). When the jaw is recessed, it makes the chin appear less pronounced and creates facial imbalance. This uncomfortable position of the jaw can also lead to an overbite. While a slight overbite is nothing to be concerned about, having a severe overbite is often accompanied by jaw pain, severe headaches, and sleep apnea. This procedure can often serve as a fast and effective solution for those troubled by these symptoms.

Chin Implant Treatment Options

When performing a chin implant, Dr. Shaw uses a specialized type of material called Medpor®. This substance has a very similar composition to that of bone. The advantage of this material over traditional silicone implants is its similarity to real bone, allowing the body to systemize it more easily. Over time, Medpor® becomes a natural part of your bone structure, assuring that it will not move out of place or feel unnatural. The implant also has a unique shape that tapers outward to cover most of the jawline. This makes for a more balanced appearance, removing any evidence of edges or distinct transition areas.

Expected Chin Implant Results

Chin implant procedures typically last about 1 hour. Following the operation, some soreness, swelling, and bruising can be expected for up to a week. Recovery time after the surgery takes about 3-5 days. After this time, you can resume your normal daily routine. In some cases, Dr. Shaw may prescribe antibiotic medication to reduce the risk of infection.
