Meet Dr. Travis L. Shaw: Facial Plastic Surgeon in Richmond, VA
Dr. Shaw’s inspiration was realized on a trip with his father to the Kjabe Mission Hospital in Kenya during his second year of medical school. During this trip, after witnessing many patients with facial deformities, he found his passion and a path toward making a real difference in the lives of others.
His specialization in facial plastic surgery began by contributing to a medical mission trip to Belize by the World Pediatric Project. While there, he served on a team of only four surgeons performing life-altering facial reconstruction surgeries on children with severe cleft lip and palate deformities, as well as congenital ear defects.
The Richmond native brought this experience back home to Virginia where he founded his own practice, Travis Shaw MD.
To this day, servitude and philanthropy remain as the cornerstone of his practice by volunteering his time, talent, and monetary resources to the Richmond community.
Today, the Lackey Free Medical Clinic near Yorktown, Virginia is one of the largest free clinics in the state, annually delivering over $5.8 Million in free care to those who otherwise would have no access to quality healthcare.
A particularly pivotal time in his career arose when he was tapped to perform facial reconstruction on a Henrico mother of 2 who was shot in the face by her husband while holding her infant daughter.
Thanks to the program by the AAFPRS, Dr. Shaw was able to rebuild the area around her eye and restore symmetry in her face at no cost to the patient.

Dr. Shaw is also a proud participant of Access Now, a program by the Richmond Academy of Medicine dedicated to providing specialized medical care for disadvantaged individuals who lack health insurance and would otherwise be ineligible to receive the help they need.
Volunteer physicians in the Access Now program have donated over $15 Million in free specialty healthcare.
Not only did Dr. Shaw spend a significant portion of his residency at Massey Cancer Center operating on patients with head and neck cancer, but it’s also the facility where his father underwent cancer treatment.
Today, Dr. Shaw’s practice is a sponsor of Massey on the River, a wonderful charity event that raised over $90,000 in 2017 for patients battling cancer.
Our Esthetician Franki works tirelessly to organize blood drives throughout the calendar year. As healthcare providers, we take responsibility in leading donation efforts which ultimately save lives. A single donation of blood can save up to 3 lives, so when we all play our part, a seemingly small act can make a world of impact on a family whose loved one is waiting for a blood transfusion.
From the VBS website:
“It takes more than 400 donations every day to meet the needs of patients in Charlottesville, Emporia, Farmville, Fishersville, Harrisonburg, Richmond, South Hill, the Staunton/Waynesboro area, Roanoke/New River Valley, Northern Shenandoah Valley area and parts of West Virginia and Washington DC.”
