BOTOX AND DERMAL FILLER COSMETIC INJECTIONS
As no one really relishes the thought of a needle in their face, many people fear Botox and other dermal fillers like Juvederm, Radiesse, Bellafill or Belotero.
I have spent a great deal of time perfecting my technique and am constantly searching for new methods to make injections as pain- and bruise-free as possible. I can honestly say that with some extra time spent with the patient and a few little tricks, the overall experience can be made quite agreeable.
LIP AUGMENTATION
Take lip enhancement as an example: there are many injectors who still use a dental block so their patients can tolerate a filler injection. Certainly, this works, but I would not want to have 4 large needles placed into the nerves of my lips and then walk around for the rest of the afternoon feeling numb and drooling all over myself. There’s just no reason why lip augmentation or any cosmetic injection should be this disruptive to a patient’s life when alternative techniques exist.
After years of modification, I have found that a combination of numbing cream, cold packs, blunt cannulas instead of needles, and a gentle hand completely obviates the need for a dental block when injecting the lips.
Many patients have told me they want to have their lips done but have either heard horror stories or have had bad experiences in the past. I talk with them about my technique and when we are done, the thing I hear the most is, “Wow!”
I have used the lips as a specific example here, but I apply these techniques with all of my facial injections.
