Microneedling for Collagen Rebuilding
Microneedling or fractional dermabrasion is a laser-like treatment that thickens the epidermis and raises the base of a scar and rebuilds collagen. Results start from three months with full results at one year. Patients see improvements in skin texture, tightening, and vascularization. There is a brief compromise of the skin’s barrier function which allows an approved penetration of the serums. Healing is fast. With microneedling we are creating “micro channels” with criss crossing patterns of tiny wounds. These wounds are controlled trauma to the tissue meant to stimulate the collagen and cause tissue remodeling via the body’s natural wound healing response system.
Serums and Platelet Rich Plasma
Serums may be used for microneedling but using the patient’s own platelets or Platelet Rich Plasma, PRP, is ideal. PRP is a concentrated form of the patient’s own plasma, enriched with platelets. What makes PRP unique is the amount of growth factors it contains, helping to stimulate increased collagen production and wound healing. Because it’s the patient’s own plasma, it eliminates the need to use a foreign substance for treatment. It is ideal for use with microneedling and laser treatment to enhance results. Platelet Rich Plasma can also be injected for improved collagen growth in focused areas such as under the eyes and in depressed acne scars.
- Better results for skin brightening if on pigment corrector, 2-3 weeks ahead.
- Men can shave the same day.
- MD/derma plane can be done before microneedling.
- 1 hour after, wounds are still open but are completely closed in 24 hours.
- Better results with serum after but BEST results with serum before and after. Serum also helps with glide of the device over the skin.
